About Us

The AFL Canberra Umpires' Association (AFLCUA) is a not-for-profit organisation incorporated in 1983. The objective of the AFLCUA is to promote the game of Australian Rules football and the interests of football generally by:

  1. fostering umpiring and improving the general standard of umpiring;

  2. coordinating the efforts of the Association with the AFL Canberra League and other footballing bodies; and

  3. encouraging good fellowship and furthering the interests of Association members.

The Association has around 120 members plus an additional 45 life members. Both male and female umpires are involved with a range of ages from 14 to over 50. The interests of the Association are represented and managed by an Executive body elected by the Members.

The AFLCUA provides umpires to five levels of competition administered by AFL Canberra (Seniors, Reserves, Canberra District grades 1 and 2 and the Under-18 competition). These competitions include teams from Canberra, Queanbeyan, regional New South Wales, Sydney and some Canberra schools.

A career path for elite umpires is also provided, with umpires having the opportunity to be offered contracts to officiate AFL competition matches.
